Phone Standard Features

This page provides a guide to the symbols and items on our phone feature summary page.
Configured
Pre-Configured
All phones are supplied pre-configured with extensions and user details ready for use as soon as they are plugged in.
Auto Provisioning

This indicates if a phone supports auto-provisioning on our network. Phones that do not support auto provisioning will require manual configuration for settings and software. Phones with auto-provisioning are maintained by us for settings and have automatic software updates.

For phones we supply, we will always try and support auto-provisioning features.

Hotdesking
Hotdesking is only supported on some models of phones.
Console
Console available
This phone has a side console available for quick dialling of either internal extensions or external numbers, all of which can be set via a web-interface.

For internal extensions they also offer "on-the-phone" status visibility allowing you to see when colleagues are available to take calls or transfers.

Bluetooth
Bluetooth compatible
Bluetooth connectivity means you can use wireless headsets with the phone. Depending on the phone model Bluetooth may link the phone to another Bluetooth device for sharing of contact data.
Power
Power supply
Does the phone include a power supply or not? Phones that support power over Ethernet usually do not come with a power supply as standard. For phones without a power supply included you may need one for small or home offices where power over Ethernet is not practical or available.
POE
Power Over Ethernet

Indicates whether a phone supports power over Ethernet (POE). This means the phone can be powered directly from the network cable using POE, eliminating the need for multiple cables and a dedicated power socket for the phone.

A POE capable switch is required that can supply power to multiple phones and can optionally be backed by a UPS to maintain your phones during a power outage.

MB
Megabit Port
The switch port on this phone works to a maximum of 100 Mb/s. This is more than enough for the telephone but if you plan to connect a computer to your network via the phone this will be the maximum speed you can connect to your network.
GB
Gigabit Port
The switch port on this phone works to a maximum of 1Gb/s. This is more than enough for the telephone but if you plan to connect a computer to your network via the phone this will be the maximum speed you can connect to your network. In most offices it is unlikely you would have a network or general purpose computer faster than 1Gb/s. If you do then let us know so we can adjust this text.
Speakerphone
Speakerphone
A speakerphone means that this phone can be used for team meetings or with the Voxhub conference service. Unless the phone is a dedicated conference phone it is unlikely that this would work well in larger room but it might work well in small meeting rooms and for huddling around a desk.
Headset
Headset compatible
This details whether a phone support a headset and what type of headset it supports. The type of connection either rj9 or 2.5mm is essential information for checking you have the right cable on a headset.
ipv6
IPv6

Phones all have varying degrees of support for IPv6. The three options currently are.

  • No IPv6
  • IPv6 Ready
  • IPv6 Now

We are often waiting for manufacturers to add IPv6 support to the phones. Some that are IPv6 ready may not have capable firmware but will in the future.

HD
High Definition

HD compatible phones allow for a higher wide band quality call to other HD compatible phones. HD is not supported on the UK telephony public telephone network.

  • No HD
  • HD Ready
  • HD Now

All phones that support HD are currently set as 'HD Ready' and when we launch HD support on our network this will change to 'HD Now'.

Encryption
Encryption

We will be rolling out call encryption to phones that support it during 2014. When we do this the 'Encryption Now' status will indicate that a phone supports encryption on our network.

  • Encyption Now
  • Encyption Ready
  • No Encryption

Encryption Ready means that a phone will work in the future when we launch the encryption capability on our network. No Encryption means that it is unlikely a phone will have encryption usually due to a lack of software support from a manufacturer.
