Use instant messaging with Voxhub for Android

Instant Messaging is built into Voxhub for Android and will allow you to have Instant Messaging chats with other logged in users on your service. Voxhub Instant Messaging works across platforms so you can communicate from your Android device to other users on their laptops or desktops at other locations.

Setting up your messaging.

When you sign in to Voxhub for Android you will be signed in to your messaging account at the same time. Voxhub for Android will remember your preference, so if you choose to make your chat account inactive this will stay the same next time you log into he application.

Navigating to the messages page.

To get to the messages page, tap the "speech bubble" icon at the bottom of the screen.

You'll see at the top of the screen your messaging status and your message history.

Starting a new chat conversation.

To start a new chat you can either:

    Tap the "speech bubble" chat button at the bottom of the screen, followed by the "+" button in the bottom right, this will bring up a list of your contacts each with an indicator telling you if they are online or offline. Then just tap on the name of the person you want to message.

    Or.

    Tap the "person" contacts button along the bottom of the screen and then the buddies button at the top right. These can be filtered to show all or only online contacts, both lists are searchable. Tapping a name brings up the contact details screen with the option to start a chat with them.

Sending messages.

To send a message you just need to type your text into the text box as you would with any other form of messaging on your Android device and then tap the send arrow to the right of the text box.

Reading new messages.

There are two different ways to access your recently received messages, you can either:

  • Select the new message from the notification bar as you would with an SMS.
  • Or.

  • Tap the "speech bubble" chat button at the bottom of the screen and then select the listed conversation with a number in a red circle. This number tells you how many unread messages are in the conversation.

Reading your chat history.

Tap the "speech bubble" chat button at the bottom of the screen and then select the listed conversation with a number in a red circle. This number tells you how many unread messages are in the conversation.

Changing your messaging status.

Tap the "speech bubble" chat button at the bottom of the screen and then tap the icon to the left of where it says "Status: XXXX". You'll see a list of status options, tap the one you'd like to set.

There's a "Enter Custom Note" for when you want to set a specific message for your colleagues to see.

Logging out of messaging.

To make yourself unavailable on messaging while leaving your phone available, tap the "cog" settings button, then tap on the "@ Accounts" option, listed here you will see an option for Messaging, this will have either a green tick in a green circle to the right or an empty grey circle.

To change from available to unavailable (or vice versa) tap the circle button.
